After Sora

The Sora Alternative for Filmmakers

OpenAI discontinued the Sora app and sora.com on April 26, 2026, and switched off the Sora API on September 24, 2026. If Sora was where you made video, you need a new model for the shots and, if you were making anything longer than a clip, a place to keep the characters, the script and the edit together. This page maps what Sora did to what replaces it today.

Dates are from OpenAI’s help page on the Sora discontinuation, which also covers exporting your Sora content.

The closest model to Sora: Kling 4

If you want one model that covers most of what Sora 2 did, start with Kling 4. A take runs up to 30 seconds, longer than Sora 2 Pro’s 25. Sound is always generated, including lip-synced dialogue written in the prompt. It does text to video, image to video, first and last frame, reference to video and video edit in one model. Reference takes are where it goes past Sora: up to 7 character or object elements, 10 images and 5 reference videos, so a character keeps the same face from shot to shot and a reference clip can set the camera move.

On fal it costs $0.157 per second at 720p and $0.235 at 1080p, about $0.79 for a 5-second 720p take. The Kling 4 guide covers each mode, how to prompt it, and what edits cost.

Why a studio, not just another model

Sora made clips. A film needs the same characters in every clip, a script that does not drift, voices that stay the same, and an edit. Frameliq keeps those together. Import your screenplay word for word or start from an idea. Every character and place gets reference portraits that go to each shot. A storyboard frame is approved per beat, and each shot is rendered with whichever model suits it: Kling 4 for a long take, H3 Max for cheaper drafts, Veo 3.1 for a short realistic insert. Voices, music, sound effects and lip sync are added on the timeline, and the film exports to MP4 up to 1080p.

You can also do the writing from ChatGPT or Claude. With the Frameliq connection, the assistant writes the story, cast, screenplay and shot prompts into your project, and it can generate the storyboard stills and video shots after it shows you the cost. See can ChatGPT make videos for how that works.

When Frameliq is not the right replacement

If you used Sora as a social app, for quick clips, remixing other people’s videos and a feed, Frameliq is not that. It is built for planned films: a script, a storyboard and an edit. If you only need a handful of single clips, the model makers’ own apps for Kling or Veo may be simpler than setting up a project.

Frequently asked questions

Is Sora shut down?

Yes. OpenAI discontinued the Sora web and app experiences on April 26, 2026, and the Sora API on September 24, 2026. OpenAI’s help page on the discontinuation explains how to export your Sora content and says the data is deleted after any final export window closes.

What is the best Sora alternative?

It depends on what you used Sora for. For long single takes, Kling 4 and Seedance 2.5 both run up to 30 seconds per take. For short realistic shots with sound, Veo 3.1. For a whole film with recurring characters, dialogue and an edit, you need a studio around the model, which is what Frameliq is.

Which AI video model makes the longest clips now?

In Frameliq, Kling 4 takes run 3 to 30 seconds and Seedance 2.5 takes run 4 to 30 seconds, both with sound. Sora 2 Pro topped out at 25 seconds. FLUX 3 Max runs to 20 seconds, H3 Max to 15 and Veo 3.1 to 8.

Can I bring my Sora videos into Frameliq?

Exported Sora clips are ordinary video files, so you can keep them as references or reuse them in a cut. A Kling 4 reference take can use up to 5 reference videos for motion or camera, and Kling 4 edit can change an existing clip of 3 to 30 seconds.
